By Their Actions

Paul wrote the following to his dear friend Timothy, “Command and teach these things. 12 Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity. 13 Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift you have, given to you and confirmed by prophetic words when the elders laid hands on you. 15 Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that everyone will see your progress. 16 Be conscientious about how you live and what you teach. Persevere in this, because by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.” 1 Timothy 4:11-16  NET2.

By their actions, poor lost sinners demonstrate they have never born-again and are living a lie. Just as John also writes, “Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.” 1 John 2:18-24 which agrees with what Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:18-21, “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” Confession and denial do not always refer to speech, but actions or life-styles often times are much more demonstrative than our speech.

Many years ago a widow of a deacon said, “My husband always lived according to what he said and spoke of how he walked. In other words, his walk matched his talk and his talk shadowed his walk. And we should do the same.”  And Jesus said it like this, “Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are voracious wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruit. Grapes are not gathered from thorns or figs from thistles, are they? 17 In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree is not able to bear bad fruit, nor a bad tree to bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will recognize them by their fruit.” Matthew 7:16-20 NET2.

I find it both sad and interesting that many in our culture, 2020, are deeply offended by these words of the Christ and call it ‘judgmental.’ The reason for this may be, and I think it true, more people are openly living in deep immoral sin which causes the general populace to become comfortable with it. Sin is no longer as dark as it once was and many who profess to be ‘Christian’ do not know the difference between darkness and light, sin and righteousness, right and wrong. And the fact may be that many who are Believers have become indifferent and therefore accepting of sinful behavior as well. In the local church there are many who protect the sinner and the sin itself by teaching that sin occupies the body of the Believer right next to the Holy Spirit. But listen again to the words of Paul to Timothy, “Be conscientious about how you live and what you teach. Persevere in this, because by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.” 1 Timothy 4:16. The Gospel of Christ empties itself of unrighteousness and is complete in the righteousness of God. “If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 16-7. This statement contradicts anyone who claims that sin is alive and well in the life of the Believer. I think I will stick with the truth of the contradiction of the lie of a false gospel and live in the Light of the true Gospel.

When people protect evil and unrighteousness the fruit of their life will eventually come to bear the fruit of it. For just as Jesus said, “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will recognize them by their fruit.” Matthew 7:19-20. These poor and wretched souls will be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire. I hope you will not be there.

Jesus is Lord.
