At one time or another everyone has heard a similar word of encouragement, “stay the course.” Sometimes I have wondered, “Which course is this guy talking about?” In the old “MASH” television series there was a sign post on their set which had arrows pointing to the town and distance from the 4077 location from which every member of this field hospital was from. The difficulty of returning home was simple: the end of the war. Several members of the cast had ideas and Klinger was the most outspoken. But the only answer for any of them was the end of the war or their term of service end date. There were no shortcuts.
For several weeks each of us has listened intently for news that would say, “The medical scientists have found the answer to end the CoronaVirus Pandemic and tomorrow we can get back to normal.” But, that has not happened and no immediate answer is available. What we do continue to hear is that our God is our hope today and He is our hope for tomorrow. He IS our lighthouse of hope.
There is an old hymn that goes something like this, “On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand…my hope is found on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” What we must continue to do is ‘stay the course,’ keeping our eyes on Jesus.
“Your faithful love come to me, Lord, Your salvation, as You promised. 42 Then I can answer the one who taunts me, for I trust in Your word. 43 Never take the word of truth from my mouth, for I hope in Your judgments. 44 I will always obey Your instruction, forever and ever. 45 I will walk freely in an open place because I seek Your precepts. 46 I will speak of Your decrees before kings and not be ashamed. 47 I delight in Your commands, which I love. 48 I will lift up my hands to Your commands, which I love, and will meditate on Your statutes.” Psalm 119:41-48.
His Word, His teaching from His inerrant, infallible Word gives us direction in every storm and every difficulty. We MUST stay the course.
Jesus is Lord.
