This is a Good Time to be Biblically Honest and Biblically Practical

Looking at the title I am thinking, “Whatever that looks like.” Everyone has an idea as to what the proposed idea coming from “biblically honest and biblically practical” might look like because most of us will not agree. For myself the beginning point on the board contains several ideas that will not be discussed here, but these are: 1. Literal, 2. Inerrancy, 3. Inspired or God-breathed, 4. and Infallible. Just to name a few. These are my practical thoughts.

However, the best place to begin is with what might be the foundation for understanding and receiving the written text of God’s Word no matter the translation used, Hebrews 11:1-3, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see. For by it the people of old received God’s commendation. By faith we understand that the worlds were set in order at God’s command, so that the visible has its origin in the invisible.” NET2.

“Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. For our ancestors won God’s approval by it. By faith we understand that the universe was created by God’s command, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible.” HCSB.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” NASB.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for , the evidence of things not seen . {substance: or, ground, or, confidence}  For by it the elders obtained a good report . Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” KJV.

The following is a quote from Manley Beasley as he may have been reflecting upon Hebrews 1:1-3, “Faith is acting as if it is so in order for it to be so because with God it already is so.” Could it be that Believers should simply receive the Word of God as it is stated without our puny thoughts of exposition…at least one time?

Billy Graham, and I am certain others have said something like this, “You know and I know that the Bible says…” This is a biblically practical statement concerning anything the Bible says: anything. This is being honest and practical about what the Word of God says, but the difficulty lies in anyone’s ability to accept any statement of the Bible to be true concerning life; past, present and future. And we must remember the Bible is NOT a book of science as we may understand it, history as we know it, statistics as we may think of ‘stats,’ and anything else. The Bible is a book of faith and this is what Hebrews 11:1-3 addresses. We must agree to accept the Bible as ‘face value,’ but are we able to do so?

Let’s see; God created the universe from nothing and the earth in 7 literal days, God destroyed the earth with a flood and saved man with a big boat, God provided man ‘a way out’ through Abrahama and son Isaac, God proved who He is to the Egyptian Pharaoh by several miracles, escorted the Hebrews to safety across a dry ocean floor and then destroyed the Pharaoh and his army in the same place. Some centuries later God miraculously sent His Son Jesus to live on the earth for 30-odd years, allowed Him to be crucified, buried Him and caused Him to live again after 3 days in a tomb outside Jerusalem. But, there is more. Jesus is now prophesied to return for His Church to be followed by a terrible time of Tribulation and the final destruction of the earth and termination of Satan’s pseudo rule with the final Judgment and installation of the promised eternal life for all who have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This is the biblical side of things.

But, where do you and I fit into all of this, right now? Again, let us be ‘biblically practical and biblically honest’ if this is possible. I know this is to be possible.

In America a cultural revolution is in progress, a revolution that is affecting the entire world economically and politically. The results are being felt at this moment across the earth. Not one Nation is isolated from this crisis. This is global. But, this is more affecting than economics and politics. These events are not simply ‘touching’ the world, these events are impacting everything. For this reason I think we are able to perceive this to be in biblical proportions. This is the practical side of events taking place now.

Because this is true, everyone alive at this moment must set aside the physical impact of this American phenomenon and inspect how the Bible is in play; historically, prophetically and spiritually. God is now being seen without most people’s awareness because most do not know Him.

Jesus said it this way, “I have told you all these things so that you will not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God. They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me. But I have told you these things so that when their time comes, you will remember that I told you about them. I did not tell you these things from the beginning because I was with you. But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’ Instead your hearts are filled with sadness because I have said these things to you. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong concerning sin and righteousness and judgment— concerning sin because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; and concerning judgment because the ruler of this world has been condemned. I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears and will tell you what is to come. He will glorify me because he will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you. In a little while you will see me no longer; again after a little while, you will see me.” John 16:1-16.

Indeed, this is a good time to be biblically honest and biblically practical. “How are you going to get to Heaven?”

Jesus is Lord.
